Mya – 13 Months

Mya is 13 months old!  This month has been FULL of awesome changes: hugs, walking, nodding yes.  Does it get any better than this?

Hugs have been awesome.  At first, her teacher at day care commented on how awesome of a hugger she was.  Nick and I were kind of surprised by this, because she didn’t really give us hugs too often.  Later that night, she gave me a huge squeezy hug, and it was awesome!  She squeezes tight and doesn’t let go.  She also loved to hug Emma and Grandma Slattery when we saw them over the holidays.  Hugs have poured out many times  since that first day we learned about them.  They are my new favorite thing!

Mya is also walking everywhere.  Crawling is only when she wants to get somewhere fast.  Otherwise, she walks, falls down here and there, but stands right back up to walk again.  It’s super cute, and she’s not very fast yet, but I love watching her try so hard to walk across the room.  She is so determined!

She also nods her head yes when she wants something.  At day care, her teaches told me that one of her friends was having a snack and Mya kept pointing to the snack and nodding her head yes.  She also does this when she wants milk.  She grabs my shirt and nods yes.  She makes it quite clear what she wants.  Fortunately, she hasn’t started nodding no yet.  I like the yes mentality.

She also makes monkey and dog sounds.  Dog sounds are usually somewhat in context.  The monkey sounds are usually made at most other animals she sees.  We’ll keep working on the sounds.  I think she just likes squealing like a monkey.

Mya is down to one nap per day.  We started to transition her to one nap, because she was waking up around 4AM, and not really wanting to go back to sleep until 5AM or so.  So far, she’s doing okay with the one nap.  She hasn’t been getting quite as much sleep, because she hasn’t yet lengthened her afternoon nap, but hopefully she will fully adjust this soon.

One of my favorite moments this month occurred after picking her up at daycare.  I went to her room to pick her up, and Mya immediately jumped into my arms, started waving bye-bye to everyone and said ‘ba’ (translation – bye).  Apparently she was ready to go home.  I love seeing her sweet little face after a long day of work.  She’s such a wonderful blessing and her sweet personality is showing more and more every day.  We love you so much!
