Today, Mya is 16 months. She’s getting to be such a big girl with her own opinions on everything. Remember how last month, everything that she was doing was super fun and super cute? Well, she’s still super fun, but the little toddler personality is starting to show up. Fun is, er, one word for it.
She loves to pull everything out of drawers, the dishwasher, the dryer…anything that she can. She throws it all on the ground, because she loves to throw now too. It’s cute, but so messy! Sometimes I can get her to help put the stuff back, but that’s pretty rare.
She also started having temper tantrums when she doesn’t get her way. She will throw herself on the ground and thrash around. We try to pick her up and she makes her body go limp, so we can’t pick her up. It usually lasts 30 seconds to a couple minutes and once she’s done, she goes on her normal little way. These little episodes are tough to watch, but I just keep reminding myself that she will grow out of it.
Everything about this age isn’t all bad though. There are some really cute things. She often understands what we’re saying. If we say, “time to go upstairs for a bath”, she runs to the gate to go upstairs. If we have something that is trash, she will gladly take it over to the trash can and throw it away. There may be other things she’s thrown away too, but hopefully nothing too important.
Mya also slept through the night recently for the first time in like 6 months. It was amazing! She’s also a little more flexible on her nap schedule, which makes things a little easier too. Aw sleep!
Mya is also now the oldest in her daycare room (newborn to 18 months). Her teachers call her “the mom” of the room, and I think she loves being the oldest. She helps feed her classmates, comforts them when they are crying, and stands her ground with the boys.
Mya’s personality is definitely coming through. She’s one tough, but sweet, helpful, opinionated, determined, little girl. We lover her so much!
