I ran a half marathon this past weekend! It was called the Mill Race Marathon and was in Columbus, IN. It was a lot of fun, since my dad completed the half marathon too. He beat his 13 minute pace goal, and beat his previous time by 30 or 40 minutes. Way to go Dad!
I almost PR’d, but officially missed it by 22 seconds, with a time of 2:05:21. My previous best was the Flying Pig in 2010 with a time of 2:04:59. I probably would have PR’d if you didn’t count the ~1 minute I had to stop for a train crossing…yes a TRAIN! Check out some pictures from Columbus’ newspaper, The Republic, below:
We had an awesome cheering section at the end of the race, consisting of my mom, all the Slatterys, and Nick, Bryson, and Mya. It was definitely fun to hear them all cheering, and Patrick telling me that I won the race. 🙂 Thanks Patrick!
At the post race party, Bryson got taken out by a BIKE cop. He was holding my hand, but stepped in front of the bike cop, who couldn’t get his feet out of the stirrups. The bike cop fell over, kind of on top of Byrson, and caught Bryson on the way down, knocking him to the ground. Luckily everyone was okay, minus a few scrapes. Bryson has now succeeded in knocking over a priest and a cop. I’m scared to see what’s next.
They were also giving away a TRUCK at the marathon, since it was sponsored by Cummins. Anyone who finished the half marathon or marathon was entered to win. Unfortunately, we didn’t win. Maybe next year!
Now on to my “A” race, which is the Queen Bee Half Marathon in less than two weeks. My goal is to break 2 hours, so we’ll see if that happens….stay tuned!
