This past weekend we went to Brown County State Park for our annual spring trip. It was a fun little getaway with lots of the normal fun things: hanging out with cousins, swimming in the pool, checking out the huge stuffed owl and chipmunk, etc. The kids had a ton of fun!
The coolest (and new) thing we got to do this year was ride ponies! We weren’t really planning to ride the ponies, but on Saturday, we went on a little hike down the hill behind the lodge. Apparently there is a horse camp at the bottom of the hill, so we decided to check it out.
They had pony rides for $2. We asked the kids if they wanted to ride. They said yes, so we bought some rides. To our surprise, the pony rides involved the parents going over to the ponies, putting the kids on the ponies. unhooking them from their post, and walking them around the track. There was no help from the workers.
We decided to go for it though. Bryson loved it. I was a little worried he would not want to go, but he was all about it. He took two laps on two different horses. His first pony wanted to stop everywhere and eat the greenery that was poking through. His second pony was a little better.
Mya liked petting the ponies and listening to the horses ‘nnneiiighh”. It was so much fun, we may have to try it again next year!
