Thanksgiving this year was lots of fun. The Slatterys came down and stayed with us Wed through Sat, and we made good use of our time.
Wednesday night we headed to the Cincinnati Zoo for the annual Festival of Lights. The weather was pretty warm, the zoo was very crowded, but the kids loved it. Mya and Claire both got to see their idol – Elsa from Frozen.
Thursday was Turkey Day! This was our first year hosting, and we made a turkey in the oven, a deep fried turkey, and the gravy. Everyone else brought the sides. Well the turkey in the oven cooked extremely fast, while the deep fried turkey temped to be done, but it wasn’t actually done when we took it out. None the less, we had lots of food, the turkeys tasted great (after a little extra cooking for the deep fried one), and everyone had a great time. I think we were too busy cooking, cleaning, and playing to take any pictures.
Saturday, we headed to the downtown library, where the kids got to play a little and we saw the Kenner exhibit. Kenner Toys is a company that my dad used to work for, which was located in Cincinnati, but no longer exists. It was really fun to see a bunch of the old toys that we played with when we were little.
Saturday evening, we headed to the Cappel’s house to celebrate with my Dad’s side of the family. The kids were exhausted, so we didn’t end up staying too long. Speaking of exhausted, the kids slept in (a little bit anyway) the next 2 days. I think they were trying to catch up from all the fun and lack of sleep.
